"Troops to Trainers, Own Your Transition"

As a soldier, you've done quite a bit of training. You have led training, and been in training more times than you can count. Did you know that you can use these training skills and know-how to build a viable and rewarding career in the field of training and talent development after you separate from the service?

Talent development is a fast growing field that attracts, motivates and informs employees in an organization. In this half-day event, you will:

  • Learn about the field of training and talent development as well as the various roles that make up the profession.
  • Hear from veterans on their transition from military service to training and talent development.
  • Gain personal branding, resume, interview, and job search tips to help you land your first job in the field.

Sponsored by the Association for Talent Development (ATD) and the USO Warrior and Family Center.

"Networking as Adventure: Embark on Your Journey Today!"

Think about your career from this moment on as the adventure of a lifetime! Your network, or professional relationships—both current, and new—are your primary resources. Your destination is unique to you, and may evolve over time.

As you embark on this journey, you will face challenges—without them after all, this wouldn’t be an adventure. At times, you will need to take risks, and step out of your comfort zone. The good news is that learning and growth occur outside of our comfort zones. And your network—based on relationships built on trust, can help you navigate obstacles, and uncover new or hidden opportunities.

Throughout your journey, you will also help others move ahead with their own professional goals.

In this session, you will:

  • Identify initial immediate or longer-term networking goals
  • Explore ways to establish rapport with new colleagues
  • Practice introducing yourself in a compelling way
  • Learn to communicate your value without bragging
  • Discuss ways to nurture and grow your network

"Uncovering & Communicating the Brand Called You!"

Did you know that you have your own brand?

Think about the world’s strongest brands. They are consistent, visible, wildly successful, and people pay a premium for these brands.

Not unlike famous brands like Coca-Cola and Starbucks, your personal brand is made up of your reputation, including your strengths, values, passions, and aspirations. Your personal brand is what differentiates you from your peers, and makes you more marketable as an entrepreneur, job seeker, and more outstanding as an employee.

Personal branding is not about creating a fancy logo or image. It is about being authentic to yourself, understanding your value, and communicating and demonstrating that value in order to optimize and achieve your goals.

In this interactive session, you will uncover the attributes and qualities that make you unique. You will also how to communicate your brand authentically to your target audience.

Sponsored by the Metro DC Association for Talent Development's Free Agent Community of Practice.
